3 Rules of Recruiting More People Into Your MLM
By action | February 18, 2009
If you have ever read my blog for any length of time you know I’m big on sharing the “how to” information on recruiting more people into your MLM business. I love talking about running ads, using resumes etc. today’s blog post is a little different.
I want to give you 3 quick tips on how to recruit more people and how to make your current MLM downline more productive.
- Under Promise & Over Deliver – when selling online it is so important to keep my #1 tip in mind. For example, if you are a customer of mine for my Resume Recruiting system you know that I go way up and beyond what you expect. I make myself available by phone to assist you in getting your recruiting numbers up within an hour or two of buying my system.
When recruiting a new MLM associate, MLM representative or MLM affiliate you should stay in contact with them on a daily basis for at least the first week or two. Remember, most people can get a little overwhelmed trying to learn the new lingo, compensation plan and product facts so offer to assist your new MLM recruit with anything they may need.
- Be Honest – don’t ever over inflate your earnings or the size of your downline to your MLM downline or new recruits. If you are just getting started in MLM it is fine to tell people that you are “new.” When I was new I would tell people not to base their decision on getting involved with my company based on my income as I am “brand new” and “just getting started.”
In a previous company I worked with I had an upline that would lie to his team and tell them that he had reached the “top level in the company” in something like 73-days. When in fact, he had been in the business for 8 or 9 months and then he made the decision to get active and then reached that level 73-days later. I had people on my team who thought they could never be as good as that upline because they had been in the business for more than 73-days and had not reached that level. I myself was in that business for 1-1/2 years before I finally made up my mind (and freed up my time) to make a run for the top level of the company. After reaching that level I retained that level every month for something like 3-1/2 years.
People on my team liked the fact that I was “busy” and was not able to make the business #1 for a year and a half. People who had “been around” for a while knew that there was still an opportunity for them. All they had to do was make up their mind to make it happen.
- Care About People – there is nothing worse then getting that call from your upline at the end-of-the-month when you know the only reason they are calling is to get your “numbers” because “they” are trying to qualify for “their” promotion. Sure, they try to make it sound like they want you to get a promotion or they chit-chat with you to break the ice but we all know why they are calling.
My upline never had to worry about me or my production as I always carry my weight. As a matter of fact with a previous company which sold legal services and identity theft services I would actually get calls from not only my upline but also crossline “so called” leaders asking me if I had “any extra counters” they could “buy from me.” On several occasions I would help these people qualify for level advancements, company vacations, monthly sales contest etc. etc.
Remember, you need to “really” care about people if you want to be successful in MLM. I have relationships with people I met in MLM for many years. Some of these people were upline, crossline and downline. Just because I joined the busy before someone else does not make me a better person then them and I’m in no way their “boss.”
Don’t you hate it when your upline trys to be your “boss?” Allow people to build “their business” at their own pace. Some people only want an extra $500 per month while others want $5,000 or even $50,000 per month. Work with everyone and truly care about their success no matter if they are in your business or not.

J.R., I couldn’t agree with you more on this subject. You are one of the few great examples of this very subject matter. This one lesson will make you feel more relaxed and approachable by new and old people, by family and friends.

J.R., You really do undersell over-deliver. I remember when I first called your number totally expecting an answering machine, but you picked up and you helped me out more than you know. It’s true what you say, thank you for your post.

There is nothing more important than being honest. If you lie to get people to join your business you’re starting the relationship building process on a bad footing. It is very important that people don’t get deceived by the money that these recruiters claim to be making.
